Why do young French people speak so little English?
A living language is a spoken language.
Speaking and understanding are the heart of a language: that is why we call them living languages. Yet with 30 students per class in French high schools and about three hours of English a week, each student gets less than six minutes to speak, even if the teacher never said a word. Teachers simply do not have the time to train and correct everyone’s speaking. The result: speaking remains the weakest skill of French people.
